Larry Chen(27), LA, USA, found 50 000 bees in his house’s walls. He explains that he hasn’t noticed the bees before, because he was too busy with work and haven’t even stayed too much at home. When he noticed the bees, he consulted a specialist about bees, and the specialist explained that the bees are now living in his house, probably for 8 months already. Chan has noticed bees’ sounds about a month ago, but this hasn’t even crossed his mind.
“I’m not really terrified of the bees. I just remained calm, and I figured they wouldn’t bother me too much,” – says Larry.
He contacted Mike – the “bee man” who came to his house and after setting up the equipment, he discovered their hive. Bees from all across the regimented insects’ hierarchy could be seen swarming over large slabs of honeycomb after Mike cut away the wall to expose the hotbed of activity.
Using smoke from burnt pine needles and a custom-built vacuum Mike rounded up 95 percent of the bees and took them to his bee farm. Larry didn’t want to hurt the bees in any way, because, as he says, they didn’t harm him in any way either.
And the exact number was announced after they were put in their new ‘homes’. “There were probably about 50 000.” – he said. The bees filled two boxes that fit 20,000 bees each, but there were still many strays. The beekeeper explained that the bees would be returned to the city after he completes a process called an orientation flight.
